Round 16 AFL Preview

Last Week           6/6           Season Total      81/126   Promise I won’t talk about my testicles this week.   Or how magnificent they are.   Although…ok, I won’t.   It was a funny old week in Sport.   The first thing I noticed was Australia’s loss to Afghanistan in the T20 match.   I’m writing this pre-amble before the Afghanistan vs Bangladesh match, but we have already lost to India, so we wait with anticipation for the result.   A Cummings hat-trick can’t even save us.   Ironically, we held the fate of England in our hands and the media toyed with the idea of throwing the match to stick one up the Poms.   While I doubt this was ever seriously considered by the team, Sandpaper aside, they have too much integrity, it now looks like England will advance and Australia will not. But to compensate for Australia’s poor showing in the Cricket, when Amy Yang won the LPGA Championship, the media here in Australia were very quick to reference her Australianness.   Yes, the Korean-bor

Round 15 AFL Preview

Last Week           5/6           Season Total      75/121   It was pretty good last week.   My tipping that is.   But I think everyone did ok in most of the competitions I’m in.   It was nice to see a bit of normality.   In the competitions I am in, the leaders are generally either the people who are in another country and joined ‘for a bit of laugh’ or those that don’t have time for football so put all of their tips in for the entire season before opening round.   It vexes me so, given all of the effort I go to in curating the right tips.   It builds character, is what people tell me, but I reckon, now it’s round 15 and I’ve got so much character that Mark Twain wrote a book about me in the past.   Anachronism be damned! I noted in the news that a players brother ran out onto the ground during one of the matches and was given a $5,000 fine and banned for life.   The lifetime ban is rather brutal, but it was the fine that raised my eyebrows.   Is it really a punishment?   Given

Round 14 AFL Preview

Last Week           4/8           Season Total      70/115   News of my death is greatly exaggerated.   But there were times last week when it felt like a close thing.   I had some serious action from most of my orifices and I’m glad to say that things have returned to a state of relative normalcy this week. Last week’s action was good from the couch (footy action that is).   While some of the skills and game style left a little to be desired the action was tense and close and I did note that all three Saturday games were decided by the umpire.   When you find yourself confined to the couch for the better part of a week you can find yourself in some dark places.   For me it was deep in the bowels of reddit where I found the “AllUmpiresAreWrong” subreddit.   If the 50m penalty defining the Hawthorn win didn’t do it, or the dubious call on Elliott Yeo didn’t do it then the clearly incorrect decision on Mack Andrew certainly got the moderators fired up.   In there I found someone wh

Round 13 AFL Preview

Last Week            2/7            Season Total       66/107   I’ve been as crook as a dog this week so this is more of an apology for not getting a comprehensive analysis of each game out in time.   That being said, I don’t think I’ve ever written a comprehensive analysis of each game as this weekly missive is more the ramblings of a madman.   Given I have signs of life today and a drug-addled mind, it is perhaps tonic enough to write a few words…but I’ll be brief...the couch is calling me, and it is a temptation too rich to deny. Adelaide vs Richmond Adelaide Oval     Thursday Night Dusty’s 300 th gets delayed so this is merely a passing interest in how much Adelaide can win by.   Adelaide by 35 points. Footscray vs Brisbane     Marvel Stadium                Friday Night Footscray upstaged Collingwood last week and Brisbane enjoyed a weekend without a knee injury.   Will the post-bye malaise hit Brisbane?   I think so…The Bont is on Fire!   Footscray by 21 points.
