Round 2 AFL Review

Thursday Richmond 10.6.66 defeated by Collingwood 17.8.110 Well, there you go... The Pies bounced back from last week in the best way possible, by thumping fellow finals contender Richmond. Collingwood entered the game with an obvious plan in place, and the team executed it brilliantly, showing up the opposition across every part of the ground! I feel only Dylan Grimes can be holding his head high after that match. When you add Riewoldt's injury it was a double bad night for the Tigers. I reckon all other teams just got that bit more concerned about playing the Magpies this year, and on Thursday night's form, so they should be. Friday Sydney 8.14.62 defeated by Adelaide 12.16.88 After a tight contest through the first three and a half quarters, Adelaide managed to take some control over the game as the third quarter neared its end. While Buddy had managed to answer most of the Crow's goals, ending with three goals himself, the Swans weren't able to keep pac

Round 2 AFL Preview

Thursday Richmond vs Collingwood @ The MCG - 19:20 Geez, it's only the first game of the round and already we have a tough one to pick! Last week the Tigers did enough to keep Carlton at bay but, unfortunately for Collingwood, they couldn't hold the Cats (see, Tim Kelly) at bay enough to get a win. In the end, the Pies went down by 7 points. Both Collingwood and Richmond looked rusty; Richmond got the win; Collingwood played the much better team... Why can't we ever get apples vs apples??? Have the Tigers learned from their Preliminary Final loss or will the Pies midfield run rampant again? I'm going with a lesson learned. Tigers by 7 Friday Sydney vs Adelaide @ The SCG - 19:50 OMG Sydney was just horrid against the Bulldogs last week! *ECHO* OMG Adelaide was just horrid against the Hawks last week! So what went wrong for these two teams? What can we learn from this game? *hears crickets...* Since 2015 all but one game between these two teams has gone to th

Round 1 AFL Review

Thursday Carlton 9.10.64 defeated by Richmond 14.13.97 Well, what a game of four quarters we had on Thursday night... Quarter 1: Dang, the Tigers are looking pretty impressive. This could get ugly! Quarter 2: Or not... Quarter 3: Geez, Carlton is making a real game of this and are shutting Richmond down really well. Quarter 4: Or not... Reports say Alex Rance has done an ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2019 season. Best of luck to you Alex. Friday Collingwood 9.11.64 defeated by Geelong 10.12.72 While most teams are underdone in round one of the season, who would have thought it would be last year's grand finalists who would struggle on the big stage of Friday night footy? Yet they did! In a seesawing game, it was the Cats (with special mention to Kelly: 31 possessions, Dangerfield: always... 'dangerous' and Ablett with 2 goals in a low scoring contest), who managed to hold on for the win at the G. Although underdone, Jamie Elliot was the most dangerous fo

Round 1 AFL Preview

Thursday Carlton vs Richmond @ The MCG - 19:20 The first game of the season kicks off with last season's top team (Richmond) playing last season's bottom team (Carlton). Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to have the AFL season back, but how about getting things going with a match between Richmond and Collingwood or Essendon v Melbourne? While Carlton did get a win in a JLT game, and a couple of handy recruits, you would think the Tigers are going to be up the top of the ladder after Round 1. I'm expecting Richmond to blow off the cobwebs and get the win. Richmond by 30 Friday Collingwood vs Geelong @ The MCG - 19:50 Collingwood made last season's Grand Final, narrowly going down to West Coast, and Geelong got another year older... While for the Cats, Dangerfield is looking super sharp, and GAblett will be dangerous up forward, I think the Pies should have too much class around the ground, especially in the midfield, to let the Cats chalk up a win in their
