Round 15 AFL Review

Tuesday, September 1
Hawthorn 7.6.48 defeated by Adelaide 12.11.83
How good is winning? If you put that question to a certain AFL team, and their coach, I am sure more their replies would go on for quite a while, and why not? After going fourteen rounds without a win, the Adelaide Crows have not only beaten a dejected Hawthorn, they gave them a fair thumping! While the match was even across the first quarter, and into the second, the Crows started to gain ascendency midway through the second, resulting in the Crows outscoring the Hawks ten goals to six across the last three quarters.

West Coast 9.6.60 defeated Essendon 6.9.45
The Bombers McDonald-Tupingwutti put in a great game, in which he was everywhere across the forward arc, ending the match with four-goals straight. Unfortunately, for "Tippa", his teammates weren't as accurate as he was, with the rest of the team kicking nine points to go with their two goals. For the Eagles, Barrass was great down back, while Gaff was his usual ball magnet. Unfortunately, for both teams, they suffered injuries to important players; the Bombers will be sweating on McGrath's ankle, while the Eagles will be feeling likewise about Shuey's hamstring injury.

Wednesday, September 2
Richmond 8.8.56 defeated Fremantle 4.5.29

While it took quite a while for the Richmond players to work a way through the Dockers defensive flood, they managed to do just that and get a hard-fought 27-point win at Metricon Stadium on Wednesday night. After the Dockers got the deficit back to a single goal at the last change, the Tigers kicked four goals to one in the last to pull away for the win. The Docker's Jesse Hogan got a game under his belt and will be better for the run. Richmond now has a good shot of finishing in the Top 4 and obtaining an important double chance.

Thursday, September 3
Sydney 10.7.67 defeated Melbourne 6.10.46

Just when the teams seem to have sorted themselves out as we head into the last few rounds of Season 2020, the Sydney Swans have outscored the Demons five goals to none, in the second quarter, to work their way to a good win. Even with the opposition kicking with a big win in the first quarter, the Swans players held tough to only be behind by three points. Once they had the wind, the Swans capitalised by slotting through those five goals to just the single point for the Demons. There can be no doubt the young Swans sung their theme-song with much gusto after this win!

Greater Western Sydney 6.12.48 defeated Carlton 5.9.39
The GWS Giants have overcome another display of poor goal kicking to get over the Blues at Metricon Stadium on Thursday night. While it was the Blues who did things better across the first three quarters, building up a fifteen point lead going into the final break, it was the Giants who managed to "flick a switch" during the three-quarter time huddle, to go on and kick the only four goals of the final quarter. With this burst, the Giants stomped over the top of the opposition and now find themselves back in the Top 8.

Friday, September 4
Brisbane 6.6.42 defeated Collingwood 5.4.34

In a low-scoring affair on Friday night, the Brisbane Lions have regained second spot on the ladder. They are now tied on points with the top team, Port Adelaide, after beating Collingwood by eight points at the Gabba. After being held goalless in the first quarter, the Lions kicked five goals to one in the second to get the ascendency over the Magpies. In the last it looked like the Pies may manage to overcome a third-quarter 26-point deficit, only to run out of time as the Lions held on. The Lions go on to play the Suns next round, while the Magpies get some time off to recuperate.

Byes: Geelong, Gold Coast, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs
